What should I wear for my First Class?You should wear clothes that are comfortable & appropriate for a work out. Be aware that we do not suggest shorts due to kicks you may be doing and the workouts are done barefoot.

I am very busy with my work schedule, how much time do I need to devote to classes?"The two 45 minute classes a week are recommended, as is practicing at home. As you progress through the ranks if you want more 1:1 attention we offer 30 minute private lessons which can further help hone your skills.

Do I have to be in good shape before I start?No, you will get into shape as you train. We have a series of exercises that you will learn as you progress through the ranking system which will enable you to perform the self defense techniques.

I am 31 years old, am I too old to start martial arts?"No, you are not too old to begin martial arts training. You train to your ability and we adapt to your physical needs. It is always wise to consult with you physician prior to any activity.

Does the school teach anything else besides karate?Yes. As a school we participate in community programs, Kick-A-Thons for Manna on Main, and work with groups like the Spring-Ford Autism Support Network. Students are asked to help at these events that expose them to different types of people. They learn how to communicate, mentor, lead, and lend a hand.

Do your classes include sparring?Villari's Harleysville is strictly a no contact sparring system. What we do is similar to a game of tag where students have distance between them.

What is the difference between Tae Kwon Do and this Karate?Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art that focuses primarily on kicking techniques. Some Tae Kwon Do schools also teach Olympic style fighting. Shaolin Kempo Karate is a practical self defense system which trains the student for modern day self defense encounters. You will never see Shaolin Kempo Karate in the Olympics.

Do I have to register my hands when I become a black belt?No, that is an urban myth. Martial Artists are not required to register their hands.

How long does it take to get a black belt?In Shaolin Kempo Karate, it takes approximately 4-5 years to reach student black belt. It all depends on how much you practice and absorb the material.
